BART OASIS The human condition is plagued by anxiety. In the past anxiety may have been a response to external stresses like finding food, defending ourselves from disease, enemies, natural disasters etc. In the 21st century we experience a new variety of stress. Technology allows for constant (albeit often virtual) connection, communication and exchange of information. We don't seem able to resist the temptation! Where has the time for rejuvenation gone? How does our behavior change when we do not (or cannot) relax? What happens to our community when we encounter an opportunity to connect in the real world but we are in this state? Do we even remember what connection (as opposed to connectivity) really is? BART Oasis is a simple piece. It is presented to a community of commuters within the magic of the unexpected. It begins as if unplanned, organically growing from within the community and utilizing the sounds of the train itself to create a new environment. Inviting relaxation? Rejuvenation? Rejection? The commuters decide. Music composed by Rachel Condry Erling Wold, accordion Lisa Scola Prosek, voice Alexis Jensen, voice Rachel Condry, clarinet Cindy Collins, camera
